Axe to Grind

With Blade & Timber’s Delano location closed in 2025, Axe to Grind has become Wichita’s primary axe-throwing venue. The downtown space on Commerce, a block from Intrust Bank Arena, has nine throwing lanes plus a full bar and lounge area — meaning the format is a real night out rather than just a quick activity to bolt onto dinner elsewhere.

The standard birthday booking is a private lane block with a coach who handles the safety briefing, throwing technique, and tournament-style brackets that keep the group throwing instead of waiting in line. Partial and full facility rentals are both available; full buyouts work for larger groups (roughly 30 to 60 throwers) and lock in the bar for the party. Most groups arrive an hour ahead of throwing for drinks, then run a 90-minute to two-hour session, then close out at the bar. Closed-toe shoes required. Wednesday and Thursday evenings are easier to grab on short notice; Friday and Saturday book two to three weeks ahead. Walking distance to most downtown restaurants, which makes pre- or post-event dinner straightforward.
